NC-17 Flims...

Today in class we watched a film about rating movies that are about to be released for public viewing. First of all i never knew that there was a board of people who rated the movies. I just thought that the director of the movie rated it. Second i never knew they were just people who were hired and some had children while others did not. Third i never knew that these people who rated movies that are barely coming out, never exposed themselves or other raters. This came very surprising to me because honestly i never knew about any of these things happening with rating films. I mean why can't films be rated by a major of people in all different age ranges and just like everyone: people who have kids, people who don't, single and couples, i don't know just everyone but not really little kids.

And then when it got to the part about some films being rated NC-17, i was surprised at how the directors were either angry or confused about why their film was rated NC-17. They really didn't have a saying in the rating and i thought that this was kinda of unfair. Because they are the directors of the film and they should have the right to face the board and argue their side. But they weren't given a chance until the film was rated and then they could file an appeal. But almost always they didn't even win the case too.

So i decided the look at more films that were rated with NC-17 and surprisingly i never heard of most of the films but i did see a couple of them.

Well here is the link to more of the films. NC-17

i liked some of the films like saw, devil rejects, and Texas chainsaw massacre.

Thirteen Warrior

One of my favorite movies to watch is called the Thirteen Warrior. I remember the first time that i watched this movie, it was so interesting and eye-catching to me.
Thirteen Warrior is based on book called "Eaters of the Dead". Its about an Arab who is banned from his homeland because he was with another man's women. His name is Ibn and he sent out in the world as an emissary. When they run into a band of vikings he befriends them. As the movie goes on a boy comes to settlement of the viking seeking help for his village, which is being attacked by creatures called Wendol.
When they turn to the oracle for help she calls out for Thirteen Warriors to go on the attack and Ibn becomes of the warriors. As he moves along, he learns more about fighting, faces his fears, and becoming a real warrior. In the end the Wendol are defeated and Ibn is whole different person and makes life time friends.
All in all i really find this movie interesting and i have watched it about 9 times now.

Is it a lie?

Dove Photoshop Transformation- In the eye of the Beholder?

Today in class i learned more about photos being photoshop and i was shocked about the information that i received. I learned that about 90 something percent of photos that are put into the magazine or billboards are photoshop. I never honestly knew that this kinda of stuff was happening. Whenever i saw i picture of a model i would think...about how they got their body so fit and how they look so perfect.
Now i more about these photoshop things...it made me feel better. Because i know that everyone out there has flaws that they can't hide but only when they are photoshop.
I think that watching this video i found on You tube was something i might show to teenage girls or girls who think that being like the models on the cover of magazines...would make them have higher self-esteem. When really it doesn't make us feel any better. I Would tell them not to believe what you see in these magazines because half the time, they are not even real.
I think that when Dove comes out with all these commericals and all these pictures of beautiful women, its a lie because when dove produces new products like anit-aging creams or healthier skins lotions....they usually put a model in with the product...making them look natural...when really they are being photoshop in the picture or making them look a little better before they are published into the magazine or billboards or other things.
Well honestly i guess thats just how life is and thats how they make their money today. But i can just that not everyone is perfect.

Stabbing at U of A.

The Navajo Times
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

It was about a year ago that a stabbing took place at U of A. When i heard of this news nothing really went through my mind because it happened in Tucson. But when i heard the name of the girl who did the stabbing, i was shocked and confused. The girl who did the stabbing went to my high school, which was Many Farms High School, a year before.
Well i never really actually meet this girl or even talked with her, but i did see her around the school campus. From other students who knew her, they were in shock because most of these students said that she was a really nice and quiet girl. And i they would never imagine her doing this kind of crime.
But i do know that her younger sister still goes to Many Farms High School. And honestly she seems really nice too and even though i hardly i knew her at school. But i was surprised about how she could handle all the pressure of what her sister did and all the questions that she was asked.
So last weekend i went home and read the Navajo Times, i came across the article on the update of the trial.
I think that this is crazy since i knew who the girl was, but i wouldn't really know what to say about her.
I heard that she was found guilty and sentence to 16 years. But I'm not really sure....

Banned Books

When i heard this word during class, i thought how could this be? Because honestly i believe that every book every published has a right to be somewhere in a library. The Bill of Rights, on the very first amendment, gives a person the freedom of speech and the right of free press. And when i saw that some of the books i read were banned, i really couldn't come up with an answer on why they were banned in the first place. I found it weird and confusing on why? Because one book i remember being on the banned list was "The Outsiders" and i really like this book. I found the book very interesting and entertaining.

And if you think a book should be banned then don't ever read it again or if you haven't read it then don't even bother to read it.......or show it to your children. But really i believe in freedom of speech and if you don't like a book then that's really your problem and don't try making it other people's problem too.
And not everyone has the same beliefs so i think that banning books is just not cool.

Bill O'Reilly on Jeremy

I wanted to know more about the Jeremy Glick thingy, so i watched the video again. I really thought it was crazy and shocking to hear what O'reilly had said to jeremy. Jeremy had veiws that he didn't even finish talking about on the show. This was becuase of how O'reilly didn't let him talk and just cut his microphone... All O'reilly wanted was for the people to see his views and see that what Jeremy was saying was wrong. I think that O'reilly was being reall unfair and not balanced. I think that freedom of speech really comes in here. Well O'reilly has the right to say what he wants and so does jeremy.

O'reilly was also being disrepectful by bring in jeremy's parents and saying that " i hope your mom is not listening", now he was just being mean.

One thing that also shocked me was the show that aired after the one Jeremy was interview on. How O'reilly just turned Jeremy's whole views around and put words in his mouth...and how he made Jeremy look like the bad guy when really he was.

Well all in all i think that its just freedom of speech. N next time O'reilly should invite someone who he wont disgree with and maybe he'll be much happier.

Effects of Globalization

As i watched this video i realized how much globalization has affected the world to this day. i was very shocked when i saw these images and it made me feel bad. Honestly i never knew that globalization would be like this, i thought it was just all about good things. While we're over here complaining about our wages being low or wanting to get more money. There are people across the country just working for any amount just to survive or feed their families. There are not laws against children working or child labor. There are children working in factories or even fields. Their homes are made of sheets, wood, and even trash. They are all packed together with no spaces between them...
This scares me...what if i or you were one of these children..So now that i think about it, its like while some people profit the product they sell, others don't benefit from it at all.

Globalization is something that can be good and bad. well for me honestly i still don't know what to think about globalization. I feel bad that we have it but glad we have it because as the go into the future globalization keeps up with us.But i really wouldn't know that much.

Stereotypes against Americans....

As I was reading through chapter 1, I came across alot of interesting readings....but one that caught my eyes the most was about stereotypes on page 13.
I never really thought about how Americans can have stereotypes. So I decided to look on the internet for different stereotypes.....

From this website http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080804114239AAQtlel
I got these..

"They are fat and love fast food.
They are extremely patriotic to the point of jingoism and intolerance, despite claiming the greatest diversity in the world.
Americans don't like people immigrating to America.
The government is corrupt and whipped by the oil industries.
America has no culture, it's all taken from the immigrants.
Americans are stupid from growing up listening to Fallout Boy.
Americans have no honor, diligence, or restraint: they get what they want or there will be hell to pay from minorities.
Americans could give less a **** about the world and environment.
Their government loves to police the world.

All stereotypes, a little true to varying degrees, but still unfair judgments."

Most these stereotypes actually surprised me. As i looked for more online i realized that one stereotype that was said the most about Americans, was we were all fat and loved fast food. This is kinda of funny to me. But thats just a stereotype because not every one is fat or eats fast food. Now that i read about this i learned that mostly every race or ethnicity in the world can have stereotypes no matter how different we are.

All in all, i found these stereotypes funny and mostly not true at all. But maybe there are people out there who do fit these stereotypes. Well i wouldn't really know. OKay I'll ask this....what do you people think?
